PreventUs screening & information system

Our tailormade screening and information system, ScreenIT, is designed to accommodate all cancer screening programmes in the Netherlands, as well as being compatible with all Dutch National population screening programmes. For more than two decades we have supported Dutch population screening parties such as Bevolkingsonderzoek Nederland and RIVM with their breast-, colorectal-, and cervical cancer initiatives.

Based on this experience and extensive software development knowledge, we have built PreventUs, our innovative and purpose-built platform to support, monitor and manage screening programs with a sustainable and future-proof approach. Designed as a composable system, it enables flexible configuration and seamless integration with existing programs and healthcare systems.

Our platform PreventUs offers healthcare providers and laboratories with an efficient planning tool, logistical insights and real-time information. In addition, the system identifies bottlenecks in the process and allows for the continuous measures and improvements and effectiveness of screening programmes.

PreventUS contributes to similar screening initiatives such as "I test", led by the Dutch Cardiovascular Alliance (DCVA). This research programme is designed for the early detection of cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney damage, and type 2 diabetes by means of a self-administered home test.

How do we support?

Our screening platform supports the prevention of disease and the detection of citizens who need care. We do this by using our software. We support the following processes:

Selection and invitation

Our software identifies all potential candidates through connections with citizen and patient registries or self-registration. PreventUs automatically selects appropriate candidates and invites them via letters, SMS, or email based on predefined criteria. This significantly reduces administrative burden and ensures consistent outreach, while you can focus on actual screening and preventive care delivery.

Testing and screening

Our modular platform manages test requests to laboratories and institutions and receives and monitors the results. With system integration based on (inter)national standards and the highest security protocols, supporting diverse tests including mammography, FIT tests, PCR tests, and HPV testing across various screening programs. This allows you to streamline the entire testing workflow while maintaining data integrity and patient privacy.

Communication

The communication with healthcare providers and feedback to participants is arranged according to current policies. This includes messages to electronic health records (EHRs), referrals to healthcare institutions for follow-up examinations or treatment, and results letters to participants. This enables seamless information flow throughout the care continuum while ensuring all stakeholders receive appropriate and timely updates in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Citizen portal

Through the citizen portal, individuals gain insight into the progress of their screening processes. Results, sent and received messages, and other documents are visible. The portal also allows users to schedule and reschedule appointments, empowering participants with convenient, 24/7 access to their screening information while reducing administrative calls and enabling greater engagement in their preventive healthcare journey.

Planning and scheduling

Within the PreventUs platform, it's possible to schedule and plan tests or screenings. The platform monitors the availability of screening capacity regarding locations, equipment, and availability. As a result, screenings are offered at the appropriate time, aligned with the policy of the specific screening program. This optimizes resource utilization while ensuring timely access for participants and preventing bottlenecks in your screening workflow.

Insight

The platform provides healthcare professionals with insight into the status of screening processes through user-friendly dashboards. This enables real-time monitoring of program performance, identification of trends, and data-driven decision making and helps you continuously improve screening efficiency and effectiveness, while maintaining comprehensive oversight of your prevention programs.

Towards better cancer screening in Eastern Europe

Topicus is part of the EU-TOPIA-EAST program. The overall goal of EU-TOPIA-EAST is to implement effective breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening programs in three sample countries in Eastern Europe (Georgia, Romania and Montenegro). Next to this we build capacity for the implementation of screening in other Eastern European and Mediterranean countries to reduce cancer in these countries and achieve equity of cancer care.
